Sakkaraippongal

Ingredients:


Rice                         -  3/4 cup  (150 gms)
Moong dal               -  1/4 cup  (50 gms)
Jaggry                      -  3/4 cup
Cardamom powder  -  1/2 tea spoon
Cashew nuts             -  2 table spoons (broken into small pieces)
Raisins                      -  2 table spoons
Ghee                        -  3 table spoons


1.  Wash and soak rice and moong dal together in 2 cups of water.
2.  Pressure cook it till it becomes soft.
3.  Take 3 table spoons of water in a thick bottomed vessel and add grated jaggry to it.
4.  Bring it to boil till it becomes thick.
5.  Mash the rice dal mixture and add the jaggry to it.
6.  Keep the mixture on the stove and add water if necessary and bring it to boil and keep it in low flame and let it cook for 5 - 8 mins.
7.  Remove from stove.
8.  Heat kadai and add ghee to it/
9.  Add the broken cashew and raisins and once they turn golden brown add it to the sakkaraippongal and mix it well.
10.I have used white jaggry but it looks better with darker jaggry also.
11.Sakkaraippongal ready.  Serve hot.
