Akkaravadisal (Rice & Moong ki Kheer)

Ingredients:

Rice                       -  1 cup
Moong dal             -  2 table spoons (Green gram dal)
Milk                      -  1/2 ltr
Jaggery (Gur)        -  1 cup
Ghee                     -  2 table spoons
Cashewnuts           -  2 table spoons
Raisins                   -  1 table spoon
Cardamom powder-  1 tea spoon

1.  Wash and cook rice and moong dal together in 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of milk.
2.  After the rice and dal mixture becomes soft mash it thoroughly.
3.  Add grated jaggery to the mixture and if necessary more milk and boil it futher.
4.  Once they blend well add the balance milk and allow it to boil for a few mins and remove from stove.
5.  Heat ghee in a kadai, add the cashewnuts, once it turns light pinkish, add the raisins and stir well.
6.  Once the cashews are golden brown and the raisins are bulged add it to the akkaravadisal.
7.  This is a type of payasam that is cooked during festivals in tamil brahmin houses.
8.  It tastes terrific.
