Ingredients:
Raw Mangoes - 2 nos(1 cup diced)
Green chilies - 2 nos
Jaggery - 100 gms(1/2 cup grated)
Ghee - 2 table spoons
Mustard seeds - 1 tea spoon
Black gram dal - 1 no
Red chilies - 1 nos (Broken into to small bits)
Karamadhu podi
(Curry powder) - 1 tea spoon
Salt - 1 pinch
Asafoitida - 1 pinch
1. Peel and dice mangoes into small pieces.
2. Slit green chilies into 2.
3. Take 1 cup of water in a thick bottomed vessel, add diced mangoes, green chilies and allow it to cook till the mangoes turn soft.
4. Mash the cooked mangoes and add grated jaggery and salt.
5. Let the whole mixture blend and boil for 3 - 4 mins.
6. Add the curry powder to it, mix well and remove from stove.
7. Heat ghee in a kadai and add mustard seeds, broken red chilies and black gram dal.
8. Once the dal turns golden brown and the mustards crackles add it the the pachadi.
9. During the tamil new year time we also add fresh neem flowers to this pachadi.
10.It has raw mangoes for sour taste, green and red chilies for spicy taste, salt, jaggery for sweet and neem flowers for bitter. This signifies all the different flavours for our life and by eating this on the new year day it says that the year will be be filled with all the flavours in our life.
